Comic-Con: Ryan Reynolds lights up GREEN LANTERN

"ComingSoon.net's SuperHeroHype is at the Warner Bros. Comic-Con presentation for director Martin Campbell's Green Lantern, starring Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, Mark Strong, Peter Sarsgaard, Tim Robbins and more, and we're live-blogging the event as it takes place.
There's a lot of excitement to see the very first footage for the first Warner Bros. superhero movie done under the DC Entertainment banner, the production having been shooting in Louisiana since February with two more weeks to go.
Not sure if this is something that many people will realize but apparently, there are hurricane warnings along the Gulf, which means the cast and crew of Green Lantern had to run in to do the panel and they have to get right back to Louisiana.
Moderator is Geoff Boucher of Hero Complex. He started things off by saying the Green Lantern oath, great way to kick things off and the first person out is Green Lantern writer and DC Entertainment CCO Geoff Johns!
They're starting things off with some footage! It's essentially a teaser which starts off with a glowing green ball and an alien voiceover that says:
'Welcome inhabitants of sector 2814. The Guardians have chosen you as candidates for enlistment but before you can be recruited, you must be tested. The light you see before you is controlled by your will. Focus on the light. If you will it, it will be. Now, focus.'
That ball of green light continues to pulse and get larger and larger before it blasts the screen with a wave of green light.
We then hear Reynolds' voiceover saying the Green Lantern oath and a quick montage of footage cut together that went by very fast, including a close-up of Reynolds as Hal Jordan, his hand holding the ring, we see him in street clothes being pulled upwards and see a later scene in which he's taking on criminals by using the ring to form a giant fist that throws a roundhouse punch knocking out a bunch of guys. We get a very brief glimpse of Hector Hammond and Tomar Re.
After the oath is done, we hear the original alien voiceover saying, 'The choice has been made.'
The light we saw earlier starts forming into the GL emblem and then we see the logo is 'Await Further Contact Summer 2011.'
They're now bringing out the cast and crew including producer Donald DeLine, writer/producer Greg Berlanti, director Martin Campbell, Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, Mark Strong and Peter Sarsgaard.
Ryan Reynolds says he was influenced by Han Solo and Chuck Yaeger for the part of Hal Jordan. The rest of the cast are talking about their characters and doing a superhero movie.
Director Martin Campbell is talking about the tone about keeping it very real and that the humor is apparent due to the presence of Ryan and Blake.
Producer Donald DeLine just listed a roster of Green Lanterns we're likely to see in the movie... he did mention that we get to see Killer Wasp.
Geoff Johns is talking about the origins of the project and how ten years ago, he never thought a GL movie would happen cause someone at Warner Bros. asked, 'Can we do it without the ring?' [I'm sure that the previous Green Lantern project was brought up - a comedy that would've starred Jack Black. Massive negative response from the fans convinced Warner Bros. to stick with the comic books]
Sarsgaard described Hammond as 'the kid who licked the battery or went up the rooftop with a coat hanger [in a thunderstorm]' to see what happened.
A question from the audience asks how they picked the characters to use for the movie, and it focuses on Kilowog, Sinestro and Tomar Re. They mention that Green Man and Bzzt will both be seen briefly.
Geoff was asked about other DC projects and he said that he can't talk about them. Same as always.
Ryan Reynolds was also talking about how he got the gig, and how they showed him the worlds and he was trying to play hard to get, but they really wanted him, though they made him work for the part by doing a couple screen tests before he got the role.
Martin Campbell is talking about Hal's relationship with his father Martin as seen in the 'Secret Origins' arc and how that's going to play a large part in the movie, finally culminating at the end of the movie when Hal becomes a Green Lantern.
Geoff Johns was asked about a Justice League movie but he's sidestepping it, saying that it will depend on the success of Green Lantern.
A question from the audience asks if there's room for Alan Scott, and Johns says, 'There's always room.' Ryan Reynolds says that Parallax is in the movie.
Asked about whether Mogo may appear, Johns says, 'There's a lot of Green Lanterns in the film.'
When asked which DC character they might make into a movie next, Johns says Green Lantern 2.
Ryan Reynolds and Mark Strong talked a bit about how their character fly in the movie, and then Martin Campbell is talking about Hal and Carol as test pilots and how that's shown in the movie as the two of them test out some of Ferris Aviation's latest jets. We definitely will see Carol in the skies flying the jets as well, rather than being only on the floor.
Ryan Reynolds says he's been wearing the ring for six months and he plans on passing it onto someone else, similar to Abin Sur giving his ring to Hal Jordan. They told the audience that there's a piece of paper under someone's seat and they will be given the ring. And we have a winner!

Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds are back!

"The Proposal director Anne Fletcher, stars Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds, and producers David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman are reteaming for Universal Pictures' Most Wanted.
In the action comedy, Bullock plays a woman on the run with Reynolds as an agent who is supposed to be handling her.
The project is described as having a tone similar to that of Universal's 1988 release Midnight Run, with Robert De Niro and Charles Grodin, which the studio is developing a sequel for.
Reynolds will also executive produce along with his Dark Trick Films partner Jonathon Komack-Martin."
Didn't they already try to do this and it didn't work? The Bounty Hunter ringing a bell?
Betty White better be in this.

"Although it was announced earlier this week that Sandra Bullock was set to star again alongside Ryan Reynolds in a comedy called Most Wanted, her representatives are now making clear that this is not necessarily the case, according to a piece at the LA Times.
Though Most Wanted is not necessarily out for Bullock, the actress will have final script approval and, as such, is not locked into doing the film at all. According to her CAA representative, Bullock will certainly not make the film her next project and, instead, is carefully selecting a role to follow her recent Oscar win."

DC's Geoff Johns talks GREEN LANTERN

"DC Entertainment Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns answered fans' questions at Comic Book Resources and he was first asked about a possible DC movie slate announcement:
'I can't get into the exact DC slate right now, but we're all working heavily on what that is with Warner Bros. and there will be news forthcoming. But, you can bet there is going to be a lot more than there is right now.'
While he didn't reveal much there, Johns did talk more about his visits to the Green Lantern set in New Orleans:
'The movie looks fantastic. I'm heading back down to New Orleans in a few weeks, but I just watched the Abin Sur/Hal Jordan dailies, and it's amazing seeing that ring passed to Hal in live action. Abin Sur looks [great].
They did such a great job. They've got Grant [Major] as a production designer. He's from Lord of the Rings, and the visuals on this film are nothing like you could imagine. It's definitely a Green Lantern fan's dream. For me, it's kind of insane to see this stuff come to life.
And Ryan Reynolds is a perfect Hal Jordan. He brings a lot of humor to it, but he also has the humanity that Hal has. And a little bit of the arrogance, so it's a great match.'

Every girl's crazy 'bout a CG-dressed LANTERN

"Everyone is curious to see what Ryan Reynolds will look like in costume in the big screen adaptation of DC Comics’ Green Lantern. Production started earlier this month in New Orleans, and while the first set photos have begun to hit the web — don’t expect to see Reynolds in the green suit.... [or] any leaked shots of Reynolds in the actual suit until Warner Bros makes the official full reveal.
Why not? Well, because there isn’t a suit. No suit?
That’s right. No suit. The suit that Ryan wears on set is a grey tracking motion/performance capture suit with led lights. I’ve heard that Ryan Reynolds has been joking on set that Warner Bros is going to make him into a Na’vi when the final cut is released. The Green Lantern suit you will see in the final film will be almost entirely created using computers.
That’s right — Green Lantern’s suit will be mostly CG!
[A source] within Warner Bros assures... that the suit will look cool. Don’t let the words 'Computer generated' scare you.
[Remember] that Ngila Dickson, the costumer designer on the film has won an Academy Award for a little film called The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. Maybe you’ve seen it before? Don’t let her 'Xena: Warrior Princess' roots scare you, she worked on the entire Lord of the Rings trilogy, The Last Samurai (another film which earned her an Oscar nomination), The Illusionist, Blood Diamond and The International.
Ngila was tasked with trying to find a way to do something that stands apart from all of the other superheroes spandex suit designs we’ve seen in the past.
Remember, the Green Lantern suit is something that should look alien — it needs to seem other worldly. It encompasses any creature that wears the ring, and Hal Jordan is the first human to ever wear the suit. This was a chance for Dickson to do something different. You also have to consider that Hal changes into the suit multiple times in mid-scene, and the CG also allows him to do this.
The suit is lined with white LEDs, which I initially thought might be used to give a practical glow (kind of like how Billy Crudup wore blue LEDs to give the actors around Dr. Manhattan a blue glow in Watchmen), but I’ve since been told might just be for mo-cap tracking purposes."
Well, that's cool. It'd still be cooler to see an actual suit.

Ryan Reynolds... back from the dead?

"Actor Ryan Reynolds is already attached to two comic book–based movie properties, having appeared as Marvel Comics' Deadpool in X-Men Origins: Wolverine and currently filming scenes as the title hero in DC Entertainment's Green Lantern, but it appears he is going for the hat trick. In a recent interview with Collider, producer Neal Moritz (Fast and Furious) revealed that Reynolds will be starring in the big screen-adaptation of R.I.P.D., a graphic novel from independent publisher Dark Horse Comics.
'We're going to do two movies with [Reynolds]. We're doing The Change-Up with him and we're doing R.I.P.D. with him. It's terrific. Based on the graphic novel. It's about two cops, one recently dead and a gunslinger who's been dead for hundreds of years who work [in] the Rest in Peace Department - which is the police department of the dead. And they basically … it takes place on a normal day and it's about trying to keep the dead quiet.'
Though he has no comic book-related movies under his belt as of yet, in addition to R.I.P.D., Moritz is guiding the development of an adaptation of Dynamite Entertainment's The Boys for Columbia Pictures, and is also producing a revival of the pulp hero Doc Savage through his Original Film production company for Columbia. The script for R.I.P.D. is by Matt Manfredi and Phil Hay, the writing team behind director Louis Leterrier's Clash of the Titans remake. Moretz said Manfredi and Hay's script is 'terrific' and that, despite the supernatural overtones, the movie will be a 'buddy action/comedy' aimed at a PG-13 audience.
'[Reynolds will] be teamed with somebody, but it's a fantastic relationship between a cop who's recently died who would do anything to get back to his wife and a gunslinger who died hundreds of years ago who has seen it all and is jaded by it all. And it's the two of these guys together and it's the relationship between these two guys that is absolutely fantastic.'
Moritz said that R.I.P.D. is Reynolds' 'favorite project' and that he expects to go into production in January 2011."
I've seen the graphic novel front cover. I think that the other guy with Ryan ought to be Jeff Daniels. Just a thought.

Nicolas Cage and Ryan Reynolds are CROOD

The Croods is written and directed by Chris Sanders (Lilo & Stitch, upcoming How to Train Your Dragon) and Kirk DeMicco (Space Chimps) based on a screenplay originally developed by John Cleese & Kirk DeMicco and produced by Kristine Belson & Jane Hartwell. Surviving in a volcanic world is tough enough, but caveman Grug (Cage) gets a rude awakening when an earthquake forces him to leave behind the only world he knows. With his family in tow, he ventures out into the volatile world in search of a new home. The situation becomes even more complicated when Grug's family - but in particular his eldest daughter - become smitten with a nomad (Reynolds) they encounter on their dangerous journey. This quirky, imaginative stranger's search for 'tomorrow' is at odds with Grug's reliance on the traditions of yesterday."

Green Light for GREEN LANTERN

"Visual effects supervisor Karen Goulekas (The Day After Tomorrow, Spider-Man) has announced on her Blog that Green Lantern got the official green light yesterday (Wednesday) and that filming will start in 10 weeks (sometime in March):
'Wow! Been a long time since I posted! But today is a day worth posting about!
Green Lantern got the official green light today! And not a second too soon - only 10 weeks out from shooting!
While it's great news we are a go - now we have to actually get our prep done in 10 weeks!

"20th Century Fox is moving forward with the planned Deadpool spin-off with Ryan Reynolds reprising his role as the 'Merc with a Mouth' from Fox's 2009 hit prequel X-Men Origins: Wolverine. According to Variety, they've hired writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, the creative duo behind Sony's 2009 hit Zombieland, to pen the screenplay, the duo having already written an earlier draft of Sony's planned Venom spin-off.
No word when they plan to start filming although presumably it will be sometime after Reynolds wraps filming his leading role in Green Lantern for Warner Bros."

"Warner Bros. Pictures is pulling the production of director Martin Campbell's comic book adaptation Green Lantern out of Australia.
The studio said that 'the current global economic situation, including fluctuations in currency valuation and overall costs. We have also had to reassess film projects in other countries as well.'
'After working closely with our partners at the NSW Film and Television Office (Screen NSW) and examining every scenario, we have decided to move the production of Green Lantern. We are extremely grateful for the assistance we have received from the NSW Government, Fox Studios and the NSW filmmaking community,' the statement said.
The Green Lantern production is expected to move to either Mexico or Canada.
Starring Ryan Reynolds, the film is scheduled for a release on June 17, 2011."

[The film is described] as a 'dude-in-drag romantic comedy, with Reynolds playing a jilted lover who must disguise himself as a woman and befriend his ex in order to win her back.'
Working Title partners Eric Fellner and Tim Bevan will produce along with Jonathon Komack Martin (Reynolds' partner in Dark Trick Films) and Steven Pearl (Loeb's partner in Scarlett Fire). Working Title has a first look deal with Universal.
Liza Chasin will be executive producer along with Reynolds and Loeb."

Ryan Reynolds rides the MOTORCADE

"DreamWorks is moving forward with Motorcade, hiring director Jon Cassar, best known as co-executive producer and a prolific helmer of the Fox TV drama '24'.
The studio hopes to get the picture into production by late summer or early fall 2010, and DreamWorks is eying Ryan Reynolds to play the disgraced Secret Service agent who happens to be in the wrong place at the right time when the U.S. president is kidnapped in New York.
Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald are producing. Billy Ray continues to work on a script that was originated by Hans Bauer and Craig Mitchell."

Three down for GREEN LANTERN

"The Hollywood Reporter says that Bradley Cooper, Ryan Reynolds and Justin Timberlake are the three frontrunners for Warner Bros. Pictures' Green Lantern.
Along with director Martin Campbell and producers Donald De Line and Greg Berlanti, Warner Bros. has spent the past five months searching for the actor to play Hal Jordan, the hot-shot Air Force pilot who is chosen by a dying alien to be his successor in an intergalactic police force known as the Green Lantern.
The trade adds that De Line, Campbell and the studio each had a different favorite among the three finalists, making it difficult to come to a consensus.
The studio is targeting a June 17, 2011 release."
My choice:
definitely not Justin Timberlake (even if he is a Memphian), he has no business whatsoever being a superhero.
Ryan Reynolds - the obvious choice (to me, he is one of the epitomes of wit, charm and humor, otherwise known as cool) but there's one little problem: Deadpool (how's he's gonna balance two superheroes from two rival comics companies?)
Bradley Cooper - seriously, I don't know enough about this guy. How's he getting all these movie offers when I haven't heard of him? He makes The Hangover and KABOOM! He's getting movie deals up to his head!
