"After months of rumors, it's finally been confirmed that High School Musical star Zac Efron has signed on to play the title role in Warner Bros.' planned live-action version of the popular '60s Hanna-Barbera cartoon show Jonny Quest.
L.A. Times' "Hero Complex" got the confirmation but mentions that Warner Bros. have been considering changing the name of the property to avoid the inevitably negative comparisons to Warner Bros.' flop Speed Racer, another live action movie based on a popular cartoon.
There's no word on who might be directing although previous rumors have pegged the team of Andy Fickman and Dwayne Johnson possibly reuniting for the third time after the recent Race to Mountain."
Okay, if you ask me, Jonny Quest is already falling into the same trap that Speed Racer did - DO NOT MAKE YOUR CHARACTERS OLDER THAN THEY ARE IN THE CARTOONS! Why do you think kids couldn't relate to Speed, Trixie and Spritle?!
And changing the name? Who wants to go see a movie based on a cartoon that they don't know is based on a cartoon?

Zac Efron Talks Jonny Quest Movie

"HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL franchise star Zac Efron talked to Moviehole about possibly starring in a live-action adaptation of 'Jonny Quest' at Warner Bros. Pictures. RACE TO WITCH MOUNTAIN director Andy Fick and star Dwayne Johnson are circling the project as well.
Efron would play the title role, while Johnson would play Race Bannon. The popular 1960s animated Hanna-Barbera TV series revolved around a young boy who travels the world with his scientist father, adopted brother from India, Bandit the bulldog, and a government agent (Bannon) assigned to protect them as they go on their adventures investigating scientific mysteries.
Efron says the project is in its early stages. 'It's a long, long process. It's so hard when people start leaking titbits. They're very, very early on [with it] – not that it won't happen happen, it's just early.'
A few weeks ago, Johnson commented on the script. 'I don't know if you've read the latest [draft] but it's awesome and it's badass... I hadn't read an action script like that in a LONG time. And that action was unbelievable. That will happen.'
The show, which is owned by Warner Bros. Animation, aired during primetime on ABC in 1964, lasting only one season. It was updated in the late '80s and '90s as 'The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest' on the Cartoon Network. The property has also been spun off as a comic book from DC."

Efron To Take On Jonny Quest Role?

"Wrestler-turned-movie star The Rock has been hired to protect Hollywood heartthrob Zac Efron - the pair will reportedly team up in the big screen adaptation of 1960s animated classic The Adventures Of Jonny Quest.
The Rock - real name Dwayne Johnson - has confirmed he is set to play Race Bannon, the cartoon series' tough guy special agent who is hired to guard and train Johnny Quest, an 11-year-old who accompanies his doctor father on amazing adventures. And Johnson couldn't resist the action man role - insisting the script is one of the best he has ever be offered.
He tells Moviehole, 'I don't know if you've read the latest (draft) but it's awesome and it's badass and I haven't read, this is what I told everyone over at Warner Bros., and I love the studio too by the way, you know, I had my experience with them with Get Smart and they were great, I hadn't read an action script like that in a long time. And that action was unbelievable. That will happen.'
But despite Efron not actually having officially signed for the schoolboy role, he has hinted he would love the part - despite being ten years too old.
He says, 'I loved Jonny Quest when I was a kid. If you go a little older, it gives you more, it allows you to be...it just gives you a bit more, you know.' "
I don't mind Dwayne Johnson in the movie but Efron as Quest....NONONONONONONONONONONONONONO! If he wants to be a serious actor he at least needs to have one stinkin' movie when he doesn't freakin' sing!! (Maybe 17 Again?)
