Larry bows out

From ComingSoon.net:

"Oscar winner Sean Penn (Milk) has dropped out of MGM's The Three Stooges... citing personal reasons. He reportedly won't work for a year.

Peter and Bobby Farrelly have spent the better part of a decade trying to get Stooges off the ground, and in March they pulled off a major casting coup: Penn as Larry, with Jim Carrey as Curly and Benicio Del Toro as Moe.

Now MGM and the Farrellys, who wrote the script and are slated to direct, need to decide whether they will wait for Penn or seek to find a new actor. The film is eyeing a late August start date for a 2010 release."

Well, what are you gonna do Farrellys?

Jim Carrey already preparing for THE THREE STOOGES

From JimCarreyOnline.com:

"Regarding the movie The Three Stooges, Jenny [McCarthy, his girlfriend] told Ellen [DeGeneres, host of Ellen] that Jim is still in negotiations and already practicing for the role to play Curly. He is enjoying his desserts to gain weight. He have to gain up to 50 pounds and shave his head. Jenny said that she had no idea what it's going to be like when he hits near 300 pounds! He is very committed and devoted towards his work and walks around in the house doing Curly 'Nyuk Nyuk Nyuk' (swinging her arms). She joked that you have to be very much in love with him to be turned on like this and she loves him to pieces."

I shudder to think of what he'll look like when he starts promoting A Christmas Carol. Dang, dude. "BRING ON THE BROWNIES"!

But I jest. He's my second-favorite actor next to Johnny Depp.

Nyuck! Nyuck! Nyuck! THE THREE STOOGES is cast!

From ComingSoon.net:

"MGM and the Farrelly brothers are closing in on their cast for The Three Stooges, reports Variety. The studio has set Oscar-winner Sean Penn (Milk) to play Larry, and negotiations are underway with Jim Carrey to play Curly, with the actor already making plans to gain 40 pounds to approximate the physical dimensions of Jerome "Curly" Howard. The studio is zeroing in on Benicio Del Toro to play Moe.

The film is a comedy built around the antics of the three characters that Moe Howard, Larry Fine and Howard played in the Columbia Pictures shorts.

Production will begin in early fall for a release sometime in 2010. The Farrellys, who wrote the script, are producing with their Conundrum partner Bradley Thomas, and Charlie Wessler."

Now, this is going to be interesting.
