The Red Skull fights THE FIRST AVENGER

"Joe Johnston, director of the forthcoming The First Avenger: Captain America, has been doing press all day out in Los Angeles for his new movie The Wolfman and ShockTillYouDrop.com Managing Editor Ryan Rotten had a chance to talk with Johnston about the movie and what to expect.
Johnston confirmed that the Red Skull will indeed be the villain of the first movie and told Ryan a bit more about why they decided to set the majority of the movie during WWII:
'Virtually the entire story except the bookends are in World War II because we all recognize we have one chance to tell the origin story of how he became Captain America, you can't tell a modern story and then go back and tell the origin story. If you're going to do it, let's do it. Let's do it first. Everyone wanted to tell an origin story. There was a version where it was a modern story and it didn't work.'
Johnston did say that they definitely are going for an American actor, preferably an unknown, and they hope to have that person by the end of February.
The First Avenger: Captain America is currently scheduled for release on July 22, 2011."

'The costume is a flag, but the way we're getting around that is we have Steve Rogers forced into the USO circuit,' Johnston said. 'After he's made into this super-soldier, they decide they can't send him into combat and risk him getting killed. He's the only one and they can't make more. So they say, 'You're going to be in this USO show' and they give him a flag suit. He can't wait to get out of it.'
He added that 'When he does go AWOL, he covers up the suit but then, after a few things happen, he realizes that this uniform allows him to lead. By then, he's become a star in the public mind and a symbol. The guys get behind him because he embodies something special.'
Which leads to a new costume: 'In the first USO sequences, the frustrated patriot will be wearing a version that is closer to the classic Jack Kirby-designed costume, but then later as the super-soldier hits the war zone he will be wearing a sturdier, more muted version that he makes himself that is more like battle togs. The stripes across his mid-section, for instance, will be straps, not colored fabric.'"

Peter Berg (Hancock, The Kingdom) came aboard in Fall 2009 to produce and direct Battleship, which will unfold as a massive Naval adventure across the seas, in the skies and over land as our planet fights for survival against a superior force. Originally slated for release in July 2011, the film was moved to give it the time and resources to thoroughly realize its huge-scale ambitions and position it for Memorial Day weekend in 2012. Scott Stuber (The Wolfman, Couples Retreat) is producing Battleship through his Universal-based Stuber Pictures, and Sarah Aubrey (The Kingdom, upcoming Dune) is producing with Berg for Film 44. Brian Goldner and Bennet Schneir are producing for Hasbro.
'We believe in Pete Berg and the incredible vision that he and the Battleship team have for this film,' said Fogelson. 'We're honored that Hasbro is partnering with us to turn one of its landmark properties into a huge summer box-office hit.'

McG declares WAR

"McG is in negotiations to direct romantic comedy This Means War for Twentieth Century Fox.
Bradley Cooper and Reese Witherspoon are attached to star in the story of two best friends, inseparable since childhood, who fall in love with the same woman (Witherspoon). The two men's bond disintegrates and their ensuing battle escalates to mammoth proportions, with New York City demolished in their wake.
Robert Simonds is producing."
Sorta sounds like Keeping the Faith mixed with Die Hard (but without the religious aspects and Bruce Willis).
The concept's okay, a bit weird for McG (who just got kicked out of Disney before he had a chance to do 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea: Captain Nemo) (and considering his previous directing efforts - both Charlie's Angels films, We Are Marshall and Terminator Salvation) but with the right cast, the right director and the right effects, this could be a genre-bending romantic comedy (not just a cookie-cutter one). Apparently this film was once written for Martin Lawrence.

"Entertainment Weekly reports that Bradley Cooper (The Hangover, upcoming The A-Team) has dropped out of the McG-directed romantic comedy This Means War. He was set to star with Reese Witherspoon.
The magazine says that 20th Century Fox was hoping to shoot the film in July.
This Means War is the story of two best friends, inseparable since childhood, who fall in love with the same woman (Witherspoon). The two men's bond disintegrates and their ensuing battle escalates to mammoth proportions, with New York City demolished in their wake.
Cooper is expected to film The Hangover 2 this fall for a May 26, 2011 release."

McG, probably hoping for less of a rant-filled shoot than he experienced on Terminator Salvation, is behind the camera for the film, which sees a pair of best-friend roommates battle over a woman (Witherspoon) who rents the spare bedroom in their New York apartment. Thing is, it’s no ordinary squabble, since one of the friends is a secret agent, and the fight starts getting increasingly destructive.
Fox has been trying to wrangle this thing into shape since buying the script back in 1998, and has been through several casting choices looking for the right team. The Wrap reports that James Franco passed and while Bradley Cooper signed on, he then ditched the flick, either for scheduling reasons or that he just didn’t like it.
Role Models co-writer Tim Dowling is trying to get the screenplay sorted and Fox will have it shooting just as soon as a few good leading men can actually be convinced to stay on board."
Oh, that's a threesome (no bad pun intended) that I'd love to see in a movie together!

Could PERCY JACKSON be the new SPIDER-MAN?

"Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief star Logan Lerman revealed to Access Hollywood that he is in early talks with Sony Pictures to play Peter Parker in the Spider-Man reboot.
'There have been a few discussions, it's definitely something I'm looking into,' the 18-year-old Lerman said. 'It's one of my favorite characters ever and I'm a huge fan of the series. I'd love to have more conversations about it. I'm definitely very interested in it.'
Access Hollywood adds that Logan said the interest in him playing Spider-Man was 'vice versa' from both him and the studio.
'It's just, you know, conversations are starting. It's a long process with the studio and the producers and everything. But it's definitely a project that I'm really interested in, of course. I'd love to focus on the human element a little bit more. It'd be such a fun experience.'"
Wow. That's really not a bad idea. He was great in Gamer, but in Gamer he was a bit of a jerk. But he had heart, and it showed especially near the end. If Percy Jackson is a success (which is gonna be a tough job, considering the movie has almost no promotion going on - and The Wolfman comes out the same weekend; however, kids movies almost always do better than horror movies so this may work), I can only imagine Sony banging Logan's door down begging him to play Peter Parker.

SOUL SURFER takes on the big wave

"Dennis Quaid, Helen Hunt, AnnaSophia Robb and Carrie Underwood, in her big screen debut, will star in the independent drama Soul Surfer, about teen surfing champ and shark attack survivor Bethany Hamilton. Being directed by Sean McNamara, the project marks country music star Underwood's big screen debut.
The biopic, which started this week in Hawaii, centers on the surf icon (Robb) who defied all odds to compete and win professional championships after losing her arm in a shark attack at age 13. Quaid and Hunt play Hamilton's parents, and Underwood has taken on the role of a church youth leader.
McNamara, Deborah Schwartz, Douglas Schwartz and Michael Berk wrote the screenplay. Lorraine Nicholson and Kevin Sorbo round out the cast."
Wow, this sounds like a good movie! Right cast, right true story, right elements of spirituality (ESPECIALLY YOU, MR. DENNIS QUAID, AFTER SAYING YOU DON'T BELIEVE IN GOD DURING Legion!).

Last year's fourth installment was the highest-grossing Fast and Furious film and Universal's top grosser of 2009, making $343 million worldwide.
Chris Morgan is writing Fast Five, in which Dom (Diesel) and Brian (Walker) are fugitives being pursued by relentless lawmen.
Filming is scheduled to begin later this year for a 2011 release."
