From T1 and T2 to T5 and T6?

From Slashfilm:

"Now that Santa Barbara-based hedge fund Pacificor has gained the rights to the Terminator franchise, everyone is wondering what the future of the franchise might hold. William Wisher, the uncredited co-writer of The Terminator and credited co-writer of Terminator 2: Judgment Day (shared with James Cameron) has written a detailed 24-page treatment for Terminator 5, and a 4-page concept outline for Terminator 6. Mike Fleming, a self-confessed Terminator fanboy, has read both treatments and calls it a 'a satisfying conclusion' to the six-film storyline.

'Apparently the scripts follow the storylines set-up in Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines and Terminator Salvation but turns the focus back to the core characters (Sarah Connor, Kyle Reese, and the T-800) and time travel storyline of the first two installments. Here is an excerpt from line:

'Wisher’s 2-picture construct takes place in a post-apocalyptic battleground, and factors in an element of time travel that allows for Sarah Connor and Kyle Reese to interact beyond their single fateful meeting when he traveled back in time to protect her in the original film.

Wisher has created a role for Arnold Schwarzenegger that is as surprising as his shift from villain in the first film, to John Connor’s bodyguard in the second. Schwarzenegger wouldn’t be needed until the final film. … There are several new villains, and plenty of firepower. For instance, a swarm of 'Night Crawlers', 4 1/2-foot tall border sentries that are set like mines to spring up out of the ground and ambush rebel fighters with 10 MM s built into their wrists, and fingers and feet that are razor sharp. Also fresh off the Skynet assembly line are new shape-shifting cyborgs that can morph together in Transformers-like mode, and are more lethal than anything we’ve seen in previous Terminator installments.'

Sounds pretty cool eh? Sony and Lionsgate are both interested in producing the next film. And while everything appears to be done on spec thus far, it appears that Wisher has painted himself in the position of having a viable and interesting pitch which could quickly be crafted into the next film. James Cameron has seemed uninterested in the last couple films, but it would be interesting if Sony or Lionsgate could convince the filmmaker to come on board to produce. Cameron might be enticed with the possibility of concluding the series he created, especially considering that they will probably be filmed in 3D."

Sounds great!! A lot better than what ended up being Terminator Salvation.

More Updates on the Future of 3D: ROBIN HOOD, STAR WARS, T2?

From Slashfilm:

"We’ve heard rumors before that George Lucas is working up a 3D version of the original Star Wars films, and those rumors are back again. This time, though, they’ve brought some friends - new rumors of Terminator 2 getting dimensionalised, and a claim that Ridley Scott is 'breathing down the neck of executives at Universal to get them to approve making a 3D version of his new $200 million epic, Robin Hood'.

Studio Canal owns the rights to Terminator 2 and it’s reportedly their plan to have a re-release in 3D. It all depends on two factors...: how hungry the exhibitors are for 3D material, and how quickly home 3D systems are adopted. If there’s a 3D T2 but nowhere to screen it, because everybody is still ‘flat’ at home and the 3D screens are filled with new pictures, then it won’t matter how reasonably priced the process is.

According to a report in The Wrap, the T2 status is that “a deal is in the works… to fast-track making the 3D version”. They also put forward the claim that “George Lucas is exploring a 3D version of Star Wars“, thought they don’t even hint at a source for that claim.

It’s on the Robin Hood front that they have what might be more solid information.

One knowledgeable executive told me that it would cost only an additional $7 to $8 million to create a 3D version of Robin Hood. The question is - what will that add to the box-office total?

Well, a darn sight more than $7 to $8 million I can promise you.

Ridley Scott has gone on the record about his love for 3D and has promised already that his film of Forever War will be shot in stereovision. Indeed, here’s his quote after he’d seen some of Avatar way back at the start of the year:

'I’ve seen some of James Cameron’s work, and I’ve got to go 3D. It’s going to be phenomenal.'

Sharon Waxman’s article inevitably discusses Steven Spielberg and his excited reaction to Avatar. What she doesn’t mention, curiously, is that Spielberg’s first 3D picture, Tintin, is already into post production.

'And one can only imagine what Steven Spielberg - whose reported comment that Avatar was the best film he’d ever seen has been repeated to me by no fewer than four awestruck colleagues - has planned for Jurassic Park.'

Okay… except we don’t even know if he has any plans for Jurassic Park."

THE GREEN HORNET meets John Connor!

From SuperHeroHype.com:

"Skipping over all the personal stuff in this article at People about Edward Furlong, you'll come across the following:

'He has gotten really upset – anybody would,' the friend says of Furlong, who is slated to start production on The Green Hornet this weekend. 'We're trying to get him back to a place where he's calming down and talking to everybody.'

That's the first time we've heard of the Terminator 2: Judgment Day star having a role in The Green Hornet, opening in theaters on December 17, 2010. If confirmed, he's joining Seth Rogen, Cameron Diaz, Jay Chou, Edward James Olmos, David Harbour, Tom Wilkinson and Christoph Waltz in the Michel Gondry-directed comic book adaptation."

Where have you been, Mr. John Connor?

TITANIC and T2 in 3D?

From MTV Movie Blog:

"Even if James Cameron's Avatar somehow doesn't hit big with audiences this December, the filmmaker may soon have a couple more 3-D movies in theaters. Proven successes no less. Cameron's production company, Lightstorm Entertainment, believes it will be ready to announce a 3-D re-release for Titanic within the next six months, and they have been doing tests on Terminator 2: Judgment Day for a similar reissue.

Imagine: Leonardo DiCaprio saying 'I'm the king of the world' while seemingly sitting on your lap. Okay, so the first section of Titanic doesn't seem to lend themselves to 3-D in an exciting way, but you know it'll look cool when the boat starts going down. Scary too. Bodies that originally fell towards the camera on their way into the icy water will now likely be headed into the audience thanks to the added dimension.

As for T2, it's not definite that the sequel will be given a 3-D re-release. Visitors to Universal Studios have been able to see a Terminator-based 3-D film with T2 3D: Battle Across Time since the mid-90s.

Still, other studios and production companies are beginning to think more about 3-D conversions. Just look at Toy Story and Toy Story 2, which are about to be re-released in the format next week. George Lucas has always teased about doing 3-D versions of the Star Wars movies, while a Universal exec says his studio is waiting to see how the Pixar re-releases do before planning anything (will we see Back to the Future 3-D if they're a success?).

Reportedly, some in Hollywood don't see the profit being there for 3-D re-releases until the same tech for home entertainment is widely available to and popular with consumers. The goods are already there, with Cameron even shilling for Panasonic's 3-D TVs with Avatar footage. But obviously it will be awhile before there's one of these products in enough American homes."

I could honestly care less about Titanic BUT TERMINATOR 2 IN 3D?! THAT'S SWEET!!

EVEN SWEETER - someone's even considering BACK TO THE FUTURE IN 3D?! AWESOME!!!
