ROBIN HOOD strings up a trailer

From ComingSoon.net:

"The trailer for director Ridley Scott's Robin Hood is now online. The action-adventure, coming to theaters on May 14, stars Russell Crowe, Cate Blanchett, William Hurt, Matthew Macfadyen, Mark Strong, Oscar Isaac, Lea Seydoux, Scott Grimes, Kevin Durand, Alan Doyle, Danny Huston and Max von Sydow."

Robin Hood chronicles the life of an expert archer, previously interested only in self-preservation, from his service in King Richard's army against the French. Upon Richard's death, Robin travels to Nottingham, a town suffering from the corruption of a despotic sheriff and crippling taxation, where he falls for the spirited widow Lady Marion, a woman skeptical of the identity and motivations of this crusader from the forest. Hoping to earn the hand of Maid Marion and salvage the village, Robin assembles a gang whose lethal mercenary skills are matched only by its appetite for life. Together, they begin preying on the indulgent upper class to correct injustices under the sheriff.

Ooo-De-Lally! Russell Crowe is ROBIN HOOD

From ComingSoon.net:

"USA Today has published the first photo of Russell Crowe in director Ridley Scott's Robin Hood. Opening in theaters on May 14, 2010, the Universal action-drama co-stars Cate Blanchett, Vanessa Redgrave, Mark Strong, Scott Grimes, Kevin Durand, Alan Doyle, Oscar Isaacs, Lea Seydoux and William Hurt.

Crowe plays Robin of Loxley in an origin story of Robin Hood that hews close to historical facts of the period. Abandoned as a child, he finds community with the common people of Nottingham. Robin's abandonment and trust issues hamper his ability to fall in love. He meets his match in Marian (Blanchett), a strong, independent woman."

First off, if you didn't get the title of the post - it's a song from the Disney Robin Hood. You know, the fox one? Yeah, that one.

Second, looks pretty cool.

NOTTINGHAM No More?

From ComingSoon.Net:

"MTV talked to Ridley Scott, who revealed that some big changes have been made to the previously-titled Nottingham, the director's next project. Here are a few excerpts:

That statement is notable, not only in that those first two projects are moving forward, but that 'Nottingham' has now officially been renamed to reflect its lead character. 'Oh yes, I think we are just going to call it 'Robin Hood',' Scott revealed. 'We start in almost 2 months.'

In an attempt to clarify all the confusion from a few months ago about Russell Crowe playing multiple roles, Scott was eager to say that he had changed his mind, and that Crowe will simply portray the famed archer who rises from an unlikely background. 'Robin Hood is in the army of Richard Coeur de Lion,' he said of how we'll find the character early in the film. 'He is a bowman in the army of Richard Coeur de Lion.'

'[Crowe as both Robin and the Sheriff of Nottingham] was an idea so far back, way back when at the time I had this proposed to me, and I read it and thought, 'I don't really know what it does for it, but it's alright',' Scott recalled of the now-abandoned idea. 'It is better to simply have the evolution of a character called Robin Hood, who will come out of a point in the Crusades which is the end.'"

I dunno, I though the idea of Crowe as both Robin Hood and the Sheriff was appealing to me. Sounded cool. But people will go see Robin Wood because of the Disney movie (who can forget such memorable songs as "Oo De Lally"?). Oh, well.
