"Heat Vision is reporting that Saw VI director Kevin Greutert will helm a sequel to Oren Peli's Paranormal Activity for Paramount Pictures. Michael R. Perry is penning the script.
Made for about $15,000, Paranormal Activity became a box office sensation as it earned $151 million worldwide.
Paramount is looking to release Paranormal Activity 2 on October 22, which puts it up against Saw VII 3D. The Greutert-directed sixth Saw wasn't able to beat Paranormal its opening weekend, making $14.1 million compared to Paranormal's $21.1 million that same weekend last October. Summit's graphic novel adaptation Red is also scheduled to open on Oct. 22.
Jason Blum and Oren Peli, are producing the second iteration. Steven Schneider will serve as executive producer.
'These guys get it, and the fans won't be disappointed,' said Peli of Perry and Greutert's participation."
I have yet to see the first Paranormal Activity. Mostly because I am too scared to.

"Just a week ago, Paramount announced that Saw VI director Kevin Greutert would helm the sequel to Oren Peli's Paranormal Activity and that the studio would release the movie on October 22, directly up against Saw VII 3D.
It sounds like the breaks have been put on that deal as reports [come in] that Saw franchise partners Twisted Pictures and Lionsgate have exercised an option that puts Greutert back in the director's chair for Saw VII 3D, leaving Paranormal Activity 2 without a director for the moment.
The site adds that David Hackl, who directed the fifth Saw installment and was previously attached to helm #7, has been taken off the project and will be assigned another film quickly."

PARANORMAL ACTIVITY invades DVD

"Paramount Home Entertainment has announced that Paranormal Activity, which cost less than $15,000 to make but grossed $106.1 million in theaters, will hit DVD... on December 29.
Written and directed by Oren Peli, the film follows a young, middle-class couple who become increasingly disturbed by a presence that may or may not be demonic, but is certainly most active in the middle of the night. Especially while they sleep.
The DVD... include the original theatrical version of the film, plus an Unrated Version with a shocking alternate ending not seen in theaters."

From Ghosts to Aliens?

"Oren Peli's follow-up to Paranormal Activity is already shooting, but details on Area 51 have been kept top secret. All we've known thus far is that the story centers around three teenagers whose curiosity leads them to the legendary and mysterious Area 51 Air Force base deep in the Nevada desert. Now, Latino Review have discovered a shooting script/outline draft dated 9/24/09.
So what's the verdict? Is it Paranormal Activity with aliens instead of ghosts? Here's an excerpt:
'The 'script' for Area 51 reads much like I imagine the 'script' for Paranormal Activity did. It's basically a scene-by-scene breakdown with a list of various props, actors, and the general interactions between the actors and their surroundings. There is no written dialogue, but within the action descriptions are general ideas that the actors will be using to improvise their lines with on set. Unlike Paranormal Activity's single location, Area 51 is far more expansive in its setting.'
The cast for the flick consists of all relatively unknown actors, Reid Warner, Darrin Bragg and Ben Rovner."

PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 2?

"Viacom's Paramount Pictures is looking to make a sequel to Paranormal Activity, which cost less than $15,000 to make and has earned a massive $84.6 million in theaters.
CEO Philippe Dauman said Tuesday morning in Viacom's earnings call that the movie has been one of those surprise hits that comes along only rarely. Given that a follow-up release wouldn't have the same element of surprise as Paranormal, it will be key to craft a smart approach to a sequel, he said. 'Our team will come up with the right creative and marketing approach.'"

Steven Spielberg scared by PARANORMAL ACTIVITY?

"This [past] week [saw] the release of Paranormal Activity, the brainchild of Oren Peli, who wrote and directed the low-budget horror film in 2006. The movie is shot with a minimalistic 'found footage' style and primarily focuses on the two stars, Micah Sloat and Katie Featherston, as they use the video to try and discover who, or what, is causing disturbances in their house.
DreamWorks originally acquired the movie after it showed at 2008's Slamdance so they could remake the film with a bigger budget. They held a screening for writers trying to gauge who would be interested in re-making the film, only to discover that the [original film was already adapt at scaring audiences even making some leave during the film].
Just how scary is Paranormal Activity? It scared Steven Spielberg so bad
he was convinced his screening DVD copy was haunted:
It was early 2008, and the director's DreamWorks studio was trying to decide whether it wanted to be a part of the micro-budgeted supernatural thriller. As the story goes, Spielberg had taken a Paranormal Activity DVD to his Pacific Palisades estate, and not long after he watched it, the door to his empty bedroom inexplicably locked from the inside, forcing him to summon a locksmith.
While Spielberg didn't want the Paranormal Activity disc anywhere near his home -- he brought the movie back to DreamWorks in a garbage bag, colleagues say -- he very much shared his studio's enthusiasm for director Oren Peli's haunting story about the demonic invasion of a couple's suburban tract house. [The original ending was changed at the suggestion of Spielberg.]"
Okay, this movie must be the scariest thing to come out of Hollywood since The Exorcist. I'll admit, the first trailers I saw, I was like, 'How is this scary?' Because all it was was that stupid door opening and closing by itself. Anybody can pull that stunt off!
But seeing this trailer made me believe this thing may have some credible scares in it.
