THE LOVELY BONES gets a lovely trailer
From ComingSoon.net:
"DreamWorks Pictures has now revealed the full trailer for Peter Jackson's The Lovely Bones, opening in theaters on December 11.
Based on the critically acclaimed best-selling novel by Alice Sebold, the film centers on a young girl who has been murdered and watches over her family - and her killer - from heaven. She must weigh her desire for vengeance against her desire for her family to heal. Oscar® nominee Mark Wahlberg and Oscar® winners Rachel Weisz and Susan Surandon star along with Stanley Tucci, Michael Imperioli and Oscar® nominee Saoirse Ronan.
Unusual follow-up from The Lord of the Rings and King Kong but nevertheless it shows Peter Jackson's enormous versitilty. It walks a great fine line from fantasy to murder-mystery/thriller. I'm already looking forward to this movie. Are you?

GUNSMOKE wrangles up a movie!
From ComingSoon.net:
"CBS Films is developing a feature reboot of 'Gunsmoke' and has hired National Treasure: Book of Secrets writer Gregory Poirier to pen the screenplay.
Craig Baumgarten (Shattered Glass, Never Back Down) will produce the new take.
The action-adventure will re-imagine Marshal Matt Dillon, the hero of the classic Western, for modern audiences. The story will be set in the same American West as the original but will feature a contemporary look and modern action twists.
Poirier is said to be close to completing a first draft of the script."
Well, my parents and grandparents will be happy to hear this!

Hugh Jackman is THE GREATEST SHOWMAN ON EARTH
From ComingSoon.net:
"20th Century Fox has attached Hugh Jackman to play American showman P.T. Barnum in The Greatest Showman on Earth, an original contemporary musical to be written by Jenny Bicks.
The film will be produced by Laurence Mark (Dreamgirls), Jackman and his Seed partner John Palermo.
Jackman will play the showman with a penchant for hoaxing a gullible public as he creates the three-ring circus that made him famous. The musical also focuses on his infatuation with singer Jenny Lind -- the so-called Swedish Nightingale.
The film will have a contemporary musical score, and the studio is in talks with British singer-songwriter Mike to write music and lyrics.
The Lind role is being scripted for Anne Hathaway, who teamed with Jackman in his opening Oscars number."
Cool! Hugh Jackman! Anne Hathaway! P.T. Barnum! But, a musical?

Steven Spielberg sees invisible rabbits!
From ComingSoon.net:
"Steven Spielberg will direct as his next film a contemporary adaptation of Mary Chase's Pulitzer Prize winning play 'Harvey', a co-production between Twentieth Century Fox and DreamWorks Studios. The announcement was made today by Fox Chairmen Jim Gianopulos and Tom Rothman and DreamWorks partners Stacey Snider and Spielberg.
Harvey is the first screenplay by the best-selling novelist Jonathan Tropper.
The film will be produced by Spielberg and Don Gregory, with Elizabeth Gabler and Carla Hacken overseeing the project for Fox 2000, which acquired the rights to the original play in 2008.
'I am very happy to be working again with my friend Tom Rothman who shepherded us through Minority Report, and with Elizabeth and Carla, who I'm looking forward to collaborating with,' said Spielberg. 'DreamWorks has experienced a creative and profitable relationship with Twentieth Century Fox in the past, and I look forward to renewing that time together.'
'Don Gregory entrusted us with these precious rights, Beth Gabler and Carla Hacken developed an exceptional screenplay and Jim and I had the easy part: Deciding to go first, before anyone else, to a filmmaker who combines the mastery of craft, tone, wit and insight that Harvey embodies," said Rothman. 'Steven Spielberg is film's greatest humanist. And we feel blessed as Elwood himself to be collaborating with him, Stacey, and everyone at DreamWorks.'
Harvey is the story of an amiable eccentric, Elwood P. Dowd, and his friendship with a six and a half feet tall invisible rabbit and how this affects every member of his family and his community. It won the Pulitzer Prize in 1944, and played on Broadway for 1,775 performances between 1944 and 1949. It later was adapted for the 1950 Universal film that starred Jimmy Stewart and Josephine Hull.
Added Stacey Snider: 'This is a story relevant for all times, perhaps more so than ever before. We are so pleased to be able, with Fox, to be bringing this to today's audiences.'
Casting and pre-production will begin immediately with cameras turning right after the first of the year as a joint venture between the two studios."
Never thought I'd see the day when Steven Spielberg would do a remake. But I'm not worried. My big question is, who's gonna play the Jimmy Stewart role?

From the creators of TRUE LIES...
From ComingSoon.net:
"While James Cameron is working on finishing December-opener Avatar, actor/comedian Tom Arnold has been talking to The New York Times, saying that he will be reuniting with the True Lies director and co-star Arnold Schwarzenegger for a movie next year:
Still, the future project Mr. Arnold said he's most excited about is a movie with a still-to-be-determined plot and script. 'All I know is Jim Cameron's making it and Arnold' — Mr. Schwarzenegger — 'and I are going to be in it, and it starts in 14 months, the day after Arnold stops being governor of California,' he said. 'It's not going to be called True Lies II, but it might as well be. I can live with that.'
Wishful thinking or is something really brewing? True Lies, which was released in July of 1994 (has it really been 15 years already?), earned $378.9 million worldwide."
I would love to see a True Lies II! And, as I've said before, it'll be good to see Arnold back on the big screen. If it's a comedy, all the better!
